If you desire more than just a relaxing stay here at Cabin in the Smokies, Cosby and the surrounding areas have a wide array of activities that you might enjoy. Cosby is located just outside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. You can enjoy tubing, whitewater rafting, swimming, and fishing in one of the nearby streams. The Cosby section of the national park has its own nature trails, picnic grounds and interpretive sites with lots of splendid scenery.
You can plan on hiking and horseback riding on national park trails, fishing in the abundant streams, or golfing at nearby courses. Just a short drive over the hill, lies Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge where you'll find factory outlet malls, skiing, Dollywood, and many other major attractions.
About the Smoky Mountains
No matter what time of year you visit the Smokies, you'll find some type of fun or interesting special event going on in the mountains. Below you'll find most of the ones that, year in and your out, have helped shape the unique character and flavor of the surrounding communities throughout the decades.
You should also know that each season is its own special time of the year here in the mountains. In Spring, the mountains bloom into new life, from high elevation hemlocks to gorgeous wildflowers (mid-April to mid-May), Mountain Laurels (mid-May to mid-June) and Rhododendrons (mid-June to mid-July). Also, as seasonal businesses start off their year, temperatures are more moderate and the crowds are smaller, so it's a great time for an early vacations!
In Summer, America comes to the Smokies for fun, entertainment and relaxation. Show, events, attractions, shops and restaurants are all in full swing, not to mention the immense offerings found in the massive playground of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This is one of the favorite times to experience the activities and beauty of the great outdoors.
Autumn means color. As the canopy of green that blankets the mountains gives way to vibrant shades of yellow, red and orange, folks from around the world make the pilgrimage to the Smokies to witness the awesome spectacle. Temperatures start to cool down, and the landscapes bursts forth in brilliant color, providing an ideal backdrop for the Smokies getaway.
Let Winter be your time to experience the magic of the holidays. Millions of Smoky Mountain Lights, along with the many events of Winterfest, make the Smokies a true winter wonderland. You might just find that Smoky Mountain romance in our mountains is the right time to say "I do," or just sneak away for a romantic encounter in the hills.
